What exactly is Tolerly?
Tolerly is your intelligent app for recognizing food ingredients and allergens. It helps you check lightning-fast whether a product fits your personal intolerances so you can shop and eat with peace of mind.
Which intolerances and allergens are supported?
Tolerly supports a variety of common intolerances such as lactose, fructose, gluten, histamine, as well as various nuts, soy, and artificial additives. You can customize your individual profile entirely to your needs.
How do I search for a product in the app?
Type a product name into the search bar or tap the scan icon in the search field to scan a barcode. Your result will be displayed automatically for both search methods.
How do the analyses work?
The app analyzes entered or scanned ingredient lists in the background and intelligently compares them against your selected intolerances to immediately give you a clear overview.
Does the app also recognize hidden or synonymous terms?
Yes. Many ingredients hide behind technical terms (e.g., "whey" for milk protein or "maltodextrin" for glucose/gluten sensitivity). The app is capable of reliably mapping these synonyms.
How does the app handle trace warnings ("May contain traces of ...")?
The app takes note of these warnings and points them out. However, since manufacturing processes can vary by producers, an additional manual check is advisable in cases of severe allergies.
Does the app also work for restaurant menus?
No. We deliberately decided against this because exact kitchen ingredients are often not fully traceable. When in doubt at a restaurant, ask the service staff directly.
Does the app work in my vacation destination?
Yes, it works anywhere in the world and in any language.
Do I need to create an account to use the app?
No! Tolerly was designed from the ground up to be privacy-friendly. You can use the app immediately after downloading without any registration or sign-up.
Where is my data stored?
Your personal profile settings and intolerances are stored exclusively locally on your own device. Server locations for any product queries comply strictly with GDPR standards in Germany.
Why is the app not free or are there subscriptions?
Not at all. Tolerly is offered as a fair, one-time purchase — there are no hidden in-app purchases, no ads, and no annoying subscription traps. Pay once, use unlimited. This is how we fund our ongoing technical costs in the background without selling your data.
Does Tolerly replace medical advice or a doctor?
No. Tolerly is a practical tool for everyday life and assumes that you know your intolerances or allergies. The app does not replace professional medical diagnosis or nutritional counseling. In cases of life-threatening allergies (risk of anaphylactic shock!), ingredient lists should always be checked manually and carefully.
